Course Overview

The Food Safety Course Level 1 equips participants with essential knowledge and practical skills for food safety and hygiene. This comprehensive food safety course covers practising good personal hygiene, using safe ingredients, handling and storing food safely, and maintaining clean utensils, equipment, and storage areas.

Participants will learn to identify potential hazards in food preparation and implement measures to mitigate these risks. This food hygiene training is crucial for anyone involved in food handling, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and enhancing overall food safety.

Course Objectives

Preparing food for sale in SFA-licensed food establishments is required to attend and pass Food Safety Course (FSC) Level 1.

  • Equip participants with essential food safety knowledge and practical skills.
  • Ensure adherence to food hygiene standards in various food service environments.
  • Identify and mitigate potential hazards in food preparation.
  • Use safe ingredients and store food properly.
  • Promote a safe and sanitary food environment.

Pre-requisites

Candidates must be in proper dress code and adhere to the following when attending class:

  • Do not wear slippers
  • Do not wear accessories/jewelry
  • Do not wear nail polish or fake fingernails
  • Keep fingernails short and clean
  • Keep long hair tied back and in a tidy condition

The admission requirements are: 

  • Read, write, and speak English at WPL Level 4 
  • Manipulate numbers at WPN Level 4

Certificate Obtained and Conferred by

Upon meeting at least 100% attendance and passing the assessment(s), participants will receive a Certificate of Completion from NTUC LearningHub.

Funding Eligibility Criteria:

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents
  • From 1 October 2023, attendance-taking for SkillsFuture Singapore's (SSG) funded courses must be done digitally via the Singpass App. This applies to both physical and synchronous e-learning courses
  • Trainee must pass all prescribed tests / assessments, and attain 100% competency
  • NTUC LearningHub reserves the right to claw back the funded amount from trainee if he/she did not meet the eligibility criteria
  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents

SkillsFuture Credit: 

  • Eligible Singapore Citizens can use their SkillsFuture Credit to offset course fee payable after funding.

UTAP: 

  • This course is eligible for Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP).
  • NTUC members can enjoy up to 50% funding (capped at $250 per year) under UTAP.

Absentee Payroll (AP) Funding: 

  • $4.50 per hour, capped at $100,000 per enterprise per calendar year.
  • AP funding will be computed based on the actual number of training hours attended by the trainee.
  • Note: Courses / Modules under Professional Conversion Programme (PCP) will not be eligible for AP funding claim.
